Travelling around Asia and Europe
Hello, my name is Brian and I’m from Australia. I was actually born in Korea, and moved to Australia when I was young. I’ve been backpacking throughout Asia and Europe, however backpacking is a tiring endeavor so I’ve decided to make a stop here in Poland in the Sophie Holmes house to experience teaching English to a diverse range of people.
My travels started in South East Asia, a region known for its rich tapestry of cultures, food, people, and landscapes. It is a contrast of tradition and modernity. South East Asia is a melting pot of cultures, religions, and traditions. From the serene temples of Thailand to the bustling markets of Vietnam, you witness a wide range of customs and beliefs. For example, in Bali the main religion being Hindu was surprising to me.
Food is an integral part of the South East Asian experience. My highlights include the spicy flavors of Thai street food, Vietnamese pho, or the sushi in Japan. It is very affordable and quickly made, there is no need for shopping or using kitchens at hostels.
From the paradise beaches of Bali to the lush jungles of Malaysia, this region has some of the world’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Exploring these landscapes is an adventure seeker’s dream. The people of South East Asia are known for their warm hospitality. You’ll find that locals are often eager to share their culture and traditions with visitors, creating memorable encounters.
Europe, on the other hand, is a continent steeped in history, art, and culture. It is a living museum, with centuries-old cathedrals, castles, and monuments at every turn. Exploring cities like Amsterdam, London, and Prague was like stepping back in time. I especially liked doing walking tours in the major cities, as the guide explained interesting historical facts and highlights of the city.
Being a hub to so many artistic geniuses, most world-class museums and art galleries that I visited were so fascinating and awe-inspiring. I was impressed with the cultural preservation of art history and movements such as Monet to Renoir for future generations to experience. Cities like Berlin and London were nice for their street art, with murals and graffiti turning the urban landscape into a canvas for creativity.
European cuisine is as diverse as its cultures. I indulged in comfort foods such as fish and chips and shepherd’s pie in the UK. I had sauerkraut and pretzels in Germany, with a cold, frothy mug of beer from one of many beer gardens. Chocolate and waffles made up most of my diet in Belgium.
Traveling from South East Asia to Europe, or vice versa, is like entering two different worlds. South East Asia offers an explosion of colors, flavors, and traditions, while Europe is a treasure trove of history, art, and culture. Each region has its unique charm, and experiencing both is a journey that has been enriching.
