Country Roads

Most of the time when Introduce myself abroad and tell where I’m from people start singing the popular song “country roads” at me.
My name is Damian and you might have guessed it by now but I am from the state of West Virginia in the United States. The usual follow up after singing at me is “you must get sick of people doing that” and the truth is no I love it. It reminds me of home and makes me happy that people know about West Virginia!

I do miss home but I get to visit a few times a year. I have been somewhat of a nomad for about 3 years now living all over the United States as a traveling bartender.

One of my favorite places I’ve lived is Las Vegas, NV. Most people think of casinos and bright lights when they hear Las Vegas (and that is true) but Vegas has so much beautiful nature just 10-15 mins outside the city and some of the best rock climbing in the world!

I decided to do a gap year of doing work exchange programs before covid but had to push it back to this year. I started in July with a hostel in Denmark where I worked in reception helping guests check into their rooms

After Denmark I moved onto Croatia for a month working at 2 different hostels one of them was in Split and one in Dubrovnik. Both cities are beautiful and filled with history. Dubrovnik is where the show game of thrones was filmed. I’m a huge fan so I had an amazing time seeing the different places around town they filmed.

The weather is much different here in Poland but I am still very excited to be here and work with all of you!
