Hi from Rotterdam!
Hello!
Welcome to an English speaker from the Netherlands, Rotterdam.
I am Tony, I’m traveling all across Europe trying to see different ways of life and people
I have lived and studied in Stockholm Sweden and Helsinki Finland. I have visited most European countries and now it’s the turn of Poland. I’m writing this from Warsaw Poland.
There have been some other Dutch people writing here before, but maybe I can show you something about my hometown Rotterdam.
Rotterdam is the 2nd biggest city in the Netherlands after Amsterdam. Like so many other cities, it was hugely damaged during World War 2. Since then it has been rebuilt with modern buildings and architecture.
Rotterdam is nowadays the place to be and one of the most high-tech cities in Europe. If you like architecture and design, it is the place to be!
We have one of Europe’s biggest underground bicycle parking areas and a brand new train station.
If you take the train and go north, you will arrive in Delft. Delft is my 2nd home as I lived and studied there for over 6 years.
Delft is known for its canals and small buildings. It also used to be the home of one of Dutch’s most famous painters: Johannes Vermeer.
If you like paintings, small houses, and canals, Delft will be for you. If you want to go bigger, Rotterdam is the place to be.
You can also always visit the other cities in the country.
We don’t have mountains, we don’t have huge amazon jungles, but we do have canals, houses, and architecture and design :).
Hope you liked reading this!
Tony
