Greetings from the Netherlands
Hello, I am Jens from the Netherlands.
About 3 years ago I started traveling because I didn’t really know what to study and I was bored.
My brother also wanted to come so we decided to book a flight anywhere and choose Katmandu Nepal. Because we thought that would be Fun.
When we got there, tour guides on the street convinced us, We ended up doing the Annapurna track. It’s a three-week walking track through the Himalayas reaching a maximum altitude of 5,416 meters above sea level.
After this, we planned to go south and travel across India and eat a lot of food. but were tired from walking. And my brother got sick because he had some weird infection on his butt because he had been sweating way too much down his back because he’s not used to exercising. So instead we decided to fly to Bali instead, to relax and surf. After we were here for a few days my brother got better.
We rented motorbikes rode all around the island and we ate a lot of food. We hopped from island to island by boat. This was fun but after a while, we got bored and didn’t have a lot of money left.
So my brother went home to work, but I decided I didn’t want to go home yet and flew to Australia to find a job.
I found a job digging holes in Melbourne. I made lots of friends in the hostel is was staying. After I saved up some money, some friends and I went on a road trip through the center of Australia and ended up in Darwin.
In Darwin, I was chilling in the park and my wallet got stolen, all I had was my passport :(.
Luckily a sailboat captain I met had just bought a new sailing boat and was sailing to Perth, and he agreed to take me with him in exchange for helping out with sailing, cooking, and cleaning. Along the way, I felt quite useless because I didn’t really know how to sail, cook, and clean. The captain thought I was an idiot and called me an idiot all the time. One time I fell and let a rope get caught in the engine of the boat. It was in the middle of a place with a lot of aggressive saltwater crocodiles in the water. I jumped in a cut the rope and I got the respect of the captain. Along the coast, we picked up 2 other travelers and we stopped in many places. We caught a lot of tuna and other fish to eat. Some days Dolphins jumped along with us.
After a year my Australian visa ended I spent most of my money on having fun. So I didn’t have money to buy a plane ticket back home. But I had to leave the country. So I bought a cheap plane ticket to New Zealand so I could find a job there.
I ended up working as a kitchenhand in a nice coastal town where I also learned to surf.
Then when I had money again my brother told me he was going traveling again. So I decided to meet up with him in Vietnam when my New Zealand visa ran out. We met in Hanoi and went on a motorcycle trip across Vietnam and it was a lot of fun we ate a lot of food.
Then The covid pandemic began and we ended up stuck in Hanoi. We had to book a plane home before all the planes stopped flying and I flew home. Not long after that, I got bored with the quarantine and in de the summer I went to Poland to teach English.
